Milwaukee FreeFlex Tech Pants Stretch Workwear Expectations

Milwaukee FreeFlex Tech Pants

If you happened to read our new workwear spring update, you already got a taste of what Milwaukee FreeFlex Tech Pants have to offer. Sometimes, a taste isn’t enough, so I’m taking the opportunity to break down these work pants into more detail and help you decide if you should jump in with both feet.

Milwaukee FreeFlex Tech Pants Basics

Milwaukee FreeFlex Tech Pants Features

What’s in a name? In this case, a lot. As part of Milwaukee’s FreeFlex line, these pants are designed to move with you as you work. From climbing ladders to navigating crawlspaces and everything in between, expect easier movement and flex.

If you know workwear, you’ve probably guessed from the “tech pants” name that these aren’t made from everyday denim. The material blend is 92% nylon and 8% spandex. The nylon base makes the material much more durable, while the spandex gives it the stretch you need for that greater flexibility. With reinforced high-wear zones and triple stitching, the construction matches the material in durability.

Technically, we could also call these “utility pants” since they have additional function built in as well. There are drop-in pockets on both thighs that make this a more versatile choice than standard work pants. On the left, you have a single drop-in pocket with a zipper. On the right, there are two overlapping drop-in pockets.

I’m right-handed, so I naturally reach to my right thigh for my phone in pants and shorts that have a pocket there. With how Milwaukee designed these pockets, I’d more likely put it on the left zippered side and save the right pockets to carry the hand tools or meters I need for the job. Better yet, I might just leave the ole’ distraction device in the truck and have all three pockets open for tools.

One more thing—Milwaukee considers these four-season work pants. Wind and water-resistance help and the 7.5-ounce construction is a nice middle ground. That’s not a weight that’s going to keep you warm in cold winter climates, though. Fortunately, the straight fit gives you enough room to easily layer Milwaukee’s Workskin base layer pants when the day calls for extra insulation.

Should You Buy Them?

Personally, I like tech utility pants, so Milwaukee is scratching an itch for me with this design. The material blend has the right ratio to be both durable and flexible, and the pocket layout can save me from wearing a tool belt when I’m carrying a lighter load.

At the same time, these pants aren’t going full-Euro with integrated tool pouches and knee pad pockets, so it’s a nice middle ground between wearing a pair of basic work pants and spending $150+ on some with all the bells and whistles.
